Gmail Signature Not Showing? Here's How to Fix It

· Updated 2026-06-19

If your Gmail signature is not showing, the fix is usually one of four things: it was pasted as plain text, the wrong signature is set as default, mobile hasn't synced yet, or you're replying to a thread that strips signatures. This guide walks through each cause in order.

Quick checklist

  1. Confirm you pasted with Ctrl+V / Cmd+V in Gmail Settings → Signature (not "paste as plain text").
  2. Check Signature defaults — your signature must be selected for "New emails" and optionally replies.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of Gmail settings and click Save Changes.
  4. Compose a new email (not an old draft) to test.

Cause 1: Pasted as plain text

Gmail does not offer a "Paste as HTML" button. You must copy from SigCraft's Copy HTML button, then paste directly into the signature editor with Ctrl+V (Windows) or Cmd+V (Mac).

Wrong: Selecting text in the SigCraft preview and copying — this often copies plain text only.

Right: Click Copy HTML in the builder, then paste into Gmail's signature field.

If formatting is still missing, delete the signature in Gmail, copy HTML again from SigCraft, and re-paste.

Cause 2: Wrong default signature selected

Gmail supports multiple signatures. After creating yours:

  1. Open Settings → See all settings → Signature.
  2. Under Signature defaults, set For new emails to your SigCraft signature.
  3. Set For replies/forwards if you want it on replies too.
  4. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

Cause 3: Mobile Gmail hasn't synced

Signatures set on Gmail web sync to the Gmail mobile app automatically — but it can take a few minutes.

  • Force-quit the Gmail app and reopen it.
  • Confirm you're signed into the same Google account.
  • If it still fails, set the signature again on Gmail web and wait 5–10 minutes.

Cause 4: Images look "missing" but text shows

Gmail blocks remote images by default for recipients, not in your editor. Your avatar and social icons are hosted externally (Cloudflare R2). Recipients may need to click Show images — this is normal for all HTML signatures.

If you don't see images while composing, check that you copied the full HTML block including image tags.

Cause 5: Signature appears twice

You may have two signatures active, or Gmail is appending a mobile signature on top of a web signature.

  • Remove duplicate signatures in Settings → Signature.
  • On mobile, check Settings → Mail → Signature isn't adding a second block.
